AffinitiQuest’s Chief Technology Officer, Ben Piercey, participated in an international webinar hosted by the Global Government Forum, exploring how governments around the world can build secure, interoperable, and citizen-centric digital credential ecosystems that deliver measurable public value.
Watch the Webinar:
The discussion brought together digital identity and trust-framework leaders from government and industry to examine real-world lessons, common challenges, and the standards-based approaches that are enabling public-sector transformation.
During the session, Ben Piercey underscored the importance of distinguishing between digital identity and digital credentials—noting that digital identity represents a collection of verified attributes about a person or organization, while a digital credential is a machine-readable, verifiable record that confirms one or more of those attributes. He emphasized that credentials must originate from authoritative sources, incorporate privacy-by-design principles, and be supported by open, interoperable standards to ensure trust across jurisdictions and service boundaries.
The webinar highlighted several key themes shaping the global digital trust landscape:
- Interoperability and standards alignment are essential to enabling governments and private-sector partners to verify information seamlessly and securely.
- Privacy and sovereignty must remain at the core of credential architectures to maintain citizen trust and national control over data infrastructure.
- Implementation urgency is critical—digital credentials are no longer experimental technologies but strategic enablers of modern public service delivery.
AffinitiQuest’s participation reinforces its leadership role in helping governments implement standards-based digital credential infrastructure rooted in ISO/IEC mDocs, W3C Verifiable Credentials, and emerging Canadian standards such as DGSI/TS 115. The company continues to support public-sector partners in realizing the vision of trusted, privacy-preserving digital ecosystems that improve how citizens and organizations interact with government.
